When women seek information and counselling for an unplanned pregnancy they should not have to worry about whether the agency they contact has a hidden agenda. Some agencies will not refer women to abortion services, some also try to pressure and coerce women into not having an abortion, often leaving them upset and confounding their distress. This is unacceptable. If a pregnancy counselling service does not provide information and counselling on the full range of options available, including termination, this should be stated in their advertising. Presently there is no legislation that compels these agencies to be upfront about the true nature of their service.

One of PCP’s founders, Erin Dolan, has long campaigned on the issue of false pregnancy counselling providers via her website DoNotBeQuiet.com, where she has compiled a list of false providers. You can learn more about this issue by visiting the GetUp! campaign site Stop Deceiving Women.
